President-elect George Weah to Attend CAF Awards with Okocha, Kanu

Ghana will be the first country to host George Weah as the President-elect of Liberia as he is expected in Accra on Wednesday to attend the AITEO CAF Awards 2017.

Weah is expected to arrive at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra by midday Wednesday to attend Thursday’s event by the Confederation of African Football to honour top African footballers for their performances for last year. The former World Footballer of the Year will not be the only retired soccer star in attendance as the long list include Nigeria’s Austin Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu.

They are all attending at the invitation of the Confederation of African Football.

CAF has invited the players as part of the new move by the continental body’s leader Ahmad Ahmad to give more recognition to respect to African football legends. The move has seen a lot of the former stars gracing CAF events and getting administrative roles.

Africa will crown its best footballer on Thursday.

Former winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Gabon is up against Liverpool’s Senegalese Sadio Mane and Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

The winner will be announced at the annual Confederation of African Football on Thursday in Accra, Ghana.
